One might conclude, based on common sense, that such ideas are hardly worth taking seriously. But history testifies that common sense has a poor record of success in the technology-forecasting field. With much of the Northwest economy dependent on Boeing and the aviation business in general, ferreting out any kernels of truth from amid the many wild rumors that have been circulating now for several years seemed like a worthy, if challenging, journalistic exercise.
