Light seems to defy its own speed limit

"Quantum Tunneling" is a subject that has come up before, and seems to be what these gentlemen are talking about:

"The temperature of the sun is not high enough to organise regular fusion of protons into helium [without tunnelling]. Some people are saying that the big bang happened because of tunnelling. Recently, many people have argued that processes in biology and in our brain are based on tunneling."

The subject of “tunnel diodes” has also come up before, but what exactly the diodes have to do with anything, much less quantum tunneling or exceeding the speed of light, is something I haven’t grasped yet. But there it is…
