Hmm, Z-pinch. It's certainly not the first time that approach to hot fusion has been tried. A lot of Silicon Valley venture capital investors in the last few years are sure that they can make various failed 1950s fusion schemes succeed just because they are from the Internet generation. It can't hurt to be trying something other than tokamaks, though.

Yeah this is already being dissed over at fusor.net:

https://fusor.net/board/viewtopic.php?t=15415

Gates has been interested in fusion for a while, has funded several startups, most notably Helion.

David O tipped me off to this story:

Microsoft Reportedly Building ‘Stargate' to Transport OpenAI Into the Future

https://gizmodo.com/microsoft-building- ... 1851375210

... which gives us some idea why Gates would be interested in fusion energy:
Stargate....could take up several hundred acres of land, and require up to 5 gigawatts of power.
5 gigawatts is... a LOT.

I wonder if Microsoft could allocate a few of those sentient AI supercomputer gigawatts towards fixing some of the security bugs in Windows before they are found by international crime syndicates, and not after.
