Rush, Natural Science

By popular request: over the years, MANY songs have been mentioned as seeming pertinent to our story. Some might show up in the soundtrack when the movie gets made. So, what songs do you think we should keep in mind? Each song can have its own thread in this forum, along with links to lyrics and/or YouTube files. Have fun.

Rush, Natural Science

Post by Junglelord »

One of my favorite Rush songs. Difficult to play and chock full of insightfull lyrics.
Rush, Natural Science, live in Rio (60,000 people)

I. tidal pools

When the ebbing tide retreats
Along the rocky shoreline
It leaves a trail of tidal pools
In a short-lived galaxy
Each microcosmic planet
A complete society

A simple kind mirror
To reflect upon our own
All the busy little creatures
Chasing out their destinies
Living in their pools
They soon forget about the sea...

Wheels within wheels
In a spiral array
A pattern so grand
And complex
Time after time
We lose sight of the way
Our causes cant see
Their effects

Ii. hyperspace

A quantum leap forward
In time and in space
The universe learned to expand

The mess and the magic
Triumphant and tragic
A mechanized world, out of hand

Computerized clinic
For superior cynics
Who dance to a synthetic band

In their own image
Their world is fashioned ---
No wonder they dont understand

Wheels within wheels
In a spiral array
A pattern so grand
And complex
Time after time
We lose sight of the way
Our causes cant see
Their effects

Iii. permanent waves

Science, like nature
Must also be tamed
With a view towards its preservation
Given the same
State of integrity
It will surely serve us well

Art as expression ---
Not as market campaigns
Will still capture our imaginations
Given the same
State of integrity
It will surely help us along

The most endangered species ---
The honest man
Will still survive annihilation
Forming a world ---
State of integrity
Sensitive, open, and strong

Wave after wave
Will flow with the tide
And bury the world as it does
Tide after tide
Will flow and recede
Leaving life to go on
As it was...

I'm still upset that Geddy abandon the Ric in favor of a Fender

Here is the way it should be

I first saw Rush on April 2 of 1978. We met them that afternoon at the Holiday Inn Cornwall, where my best friends brother Timmy, another drummer, was working as lifeguard. Neil threw his drum sticks to Timmy at the end of the Concert Farewell to Kings Tour they played in Cornwall that night. The ric does the trick for sure! Neil Played Slingerland drums back then
:D

Fastforward to fathers day this year and my son Brandon Lee ( a great drummer of course) takes me to see the Snakes and Arrows tour in Montreal in June on a full moon. What an amazing night. No matter what Geddy or Neil or Alex play, they play it freaking perfect. The band was just incredible. My son and I air drumming thoroughout the whole night. It really meant the world to me and will be a day I will never forget...One of the best days of my life.
Looking forward to the Snakes and Arrows Concert DVD coming out in Nov 2008.

Skyfish,
Perhaps we should send out a drum beat,if He could see what a hairless pussycat the big lion is, maybe big tough tarzan will come out of hiding, if not maybe He's too scared?

Thanks. Great suggestion of Natural Science (I prefer the live version), and yes, Snakes and Arrows was a superb tour.

Kevin,
I have a special spot behind my house. I find all kinds of indian artifiacts there. I believe it was a village site. I feel the energy there. One morning while walking the dogs back to the woods, there was a light fog and the sun was coming up and shining over my sholder. A rainbow formed in front of me, I could see it as it arched in front of the woods and come down just yards in frot of me. I was able to actually walk into the illuminated multicolored mist....like it was the end of the rainbow...never done that before and I stayed there for 10 or 15 minutes as the colors sparkled and swirled around me. I like that spot.
