Jefferson Starship - Caroline

By popular request: over the years, MANY songs have been mentioned as seeming pertinent to our story. Some might show up in the soundtrack when the movie gets made. So, what songs do you think we should keep in mind? Each song can have its own thread in this forum, along with links to lyrics and/or YouTube files. Have fun.

Jefferson Starship - Caroline

Post by natecull »

Because I was looking for 'Blows Against The Empire' from the original Jefferson Starship, and practically every Jefferson song is apropos, but this one seemed more... right. A song for Morgan maybe.

And who *was* the original Caroline, anyway? Follow the women...

Nate, I don't know who Caroline was to the Jefferson Airplane ( step up someone?) but the "original Caroline" in Pauls book was Eldridges Johnsons mother, who died when he was a very young child. I believe Paul included a picture of her. Sensitive looking and pretty woman.

And I agree with you. It goes well with Morgan. Linda

And Airplane and Starship were mostly the same band, of course... well at least Grace Slick and Paul Kantner were still involved initially.

Morgan once mentioned that Mr. Tamborineman was the song he most associated with my Dad. Given that thought its sort of interesting to see the lyrics again with his eyes.

"Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Take me on a trip upon your magic swirlin' ship,
My senses have been stripped, my hands can't feel to grip,
My toes too numb to step, wait only for my boot heels
To be wanderin'.
I'm ready to go anywhere, I'm ready for to fade
Into my own parade, cast your dancing spell my way,
I promise to go under it.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Though you might hear laughin', spinnin', swingin' madly across the sun,
It's not aimed at anyone, it's just escapin' on the run
And but for the sky there are no fences facin'.
And if you hear vague traces of skippin' reels of rhyme
To your tambourine in time, it's just a ragged clown behind,
I wouldn't pay it any mind, it's just a shadow you're
Seein' that he's chasing.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you.

Then take me disappearin' through the smoke rings of my mind,
Down the foggy ruins of time, far past the frozen leaves,
The haunted, frightened trees, out to the windy beach,
Far from the twisted reach of crazy sorrow.
Yes, to dance beneath the diamond sky with one hand waving free,
Silhouetted by the sea, circled by the circus sands,
With all memory and fate driven deep beneath the waves,
Let me forget about today until tomorrow.

Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
I'm not sleepy and there is no place I'm going to.
Hey! Mr. Tambourine Man, play a song for me,
In the jingle jangle morning I'll come followin' you."

me too. Linda

Thank you so much for that insight Linda. I will never be able to hear that song now without thinking of Morgan, Silver swirling ship indeed. I wonder if Stephen Speilberg was thinking of that when he added that last part to his last Indiana Jones? That was the exact " silver swirling ship" too. MarkC

Byrds Silver Saucer

Post by Mark Culpepper »

Byrds Silver Saucer shows up again!

Woke up this morning with light in my eyes
And then realized it was still dark outside
It was a light coming down from the sky
I don't know who or why

Must be those strangers that come every night
Those saucer shaped lights put people uptight
Leave blue-green footprints that glow in the dark
I hope they get home all right

{Refrain}
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along
I won't do anything wrong
Hey, Mr. Spaceman
Won't you please take me along for a ride

Woke up this morning, I was feeling quite weird
Had flies in my beard, my toothpaste was smeared
Over my window, they'd written my name
Said, so long, we'll see you again

Sounds like the same version of Mr. Tambourineman though tweeked just a bit! MarkC

I just took a ride
in a silver machine
and I'm still feeling mean.

Do you want to ride
see yourself going by
the other side of the sky
I got a silver machine.

It flies sideways through time
It's an electric line
To your Zodiac sign.

I've got a silver machine,
I've got a silver machine,
I've got a silver machine,
I've got a silver machine.
