Absolutely Pat and Neenie!!!!!

If it didn't move and it was a shelf or something like that .... he had it painted avocado green!!!!!! He liked that color before it even got popular in the seventies. I painted my share of stuff for him that color .... and that wasn't even my job! Go figure how he managed that! You could almost track Townsend Brown by the things painted avocado green...... and references to peanut butter! Thanks for the laugh ........ Twigsnapper

Hi Twigsnapper,
The reply to that question of the 4 o'clock fish never went through. Dr. Brown offer that mixture once. Politely said, "No thank you" and made the face of a 5 year old that was offered worms instead of candy. He laughed. I ate the m&m's that he seemed to avoid (because of the color?) Neenie

I just thought that the pictures might help you because I know that you worry about being factual in your presentation. So I need to present myself a little better. I am the fellow to Dr. Browns left in that one shot. Don't recall what we were laughing over at that particular moment. Wish I did.
OK kids, here is the picture that Mr. Twigsnapper is referring to

As I understand it, it's pretty rare for guys operating in these circles to be photographed together. But since Mr. B is deceased and Mr. T is, umm, considerably older nowadays, I don't suppose there is any harm done in posting a photo like this.

great shot

Paul .... thankyou for sharing that photo with us and thankyou Mr. Twigsnapper for sending it. (A handsome man then I might say ... and probably just as handsome now.)

I notice that Dr. Brown is wearing a sweater as well as his jacket. Poor man I'll bet was freezing.

Can anyone tell me about the sailors in the photo? Are they American? English? I don't recognize the uniform, but of course it is 1956 here ... Is there a naval historian out there? Mr. Trickfox? Will you tell us why you are pictured with this group? A chance encounter? A momento for some reason? Thanks for sharing the picture. Victoria

Yup I was there

Well you know Victoria I certainly do get around a lot, and Dr. Brown allways thought of me as one of his favorite cartoons, so he took me to France with him. In any case I had to come along to protect Mr. twigsnapper.

Mr. Trickfox ..... and this time I mean Mr. Trickfox .... last time I meant Mr. Twigsnapper ... but thats not what I wrote and now I am beginning to wonder if its not one of those cosmically connected happenings. Mr. Twigsnapper said he couldn't remember why they were laughing .... well .... maybe now I know! Moments connecting in time, isn't that what you said Madison? Moments just waiting for the faces to appear. Welcome to 1956 in Paris Mr. Trickfox, from the looks of it , Dr. Brown will have many friends there!

I was going to ask you, since you speak french so fluently , how I would properly pronounce that restaurant in the background. Or .... maybe THATS what they were laughing at too!!!! Victoria

the party starts

Hey guys!!!! The party is supposed to be in Vegas in November. You are all getting an early start on us!

Laughing too here! Thankyou Victoria for the typo .... thankyou the Controlling Unknown ... for putting it together in the right place at the right time .... and thank you Trickfox for feeling the laugh and moving on it.

Indeed Dr. Brown is in very good company.

It's Pronounced in an English way

The pronounciation is "foo-cket's" but please note that this is an "englishized" word (a french word which is said in an english manner)
There is no "apostrophic" way of speaking French. The reason it is written the way it is, -is because it would attract English customers.

If it was written in French correctly, it would say "Chez Fouquet".

Fouquet was probably the owner's last name so it's meant to sound like
"Fouquet's place". (which is what "chez Fouquet" means)

I imagine this sounds like a common practice in Europe.

OH and by the way, Twigsnapper, I may be smaller, but YOU sir are the one who was smartly dressed. YOU LOOK GREAT in this photo. (Much like James Bond I might add)
Ask any of the gals in this forum and they will tell you the same.

Trickfox

funny you mention BOND

Trickfox .... ( I know what I did wrong ... I started off by adding "Mr." to your name too ... no less respect intended but I think I will reserve the "Mr." for Twigsnapper, if thats OK with you .... then I won't get confused!)

So, Trickfox ..... you mention BOND, James Bond, and so I have been doing a little reading and ha ha ...... I might have thought you were kidding but the fellow in that photogragh just might have been one of the models for that ficticious individual ..... or for sure ... probably knew William Stephenson, who even Ian Flemming said was the "real Bond"

And writers, they write about what they already know or have learned ..... and Ian Fleming during the war was working for a man named Godfrey ..... who was strongly linked with Stephenson. You guys get into this part of history! Its been overlooked but it is sure there!

And there are many other crossovers, so guys, read that part of history. Its even better than a James Bond flick, cause this is real.

and I have a feeling that anyone who was "assigned" to a scientist in the mid fifties ( a scientist known for his interest in advanced propulsion) .... was right in the middle of many of what later became BOND adventures .... and Mr. Brown, our sweet scientist ... seems now to be right in the middle of all of this ....... hey .... I agree with you guys, its fascinating .... and its also screaming .... movie, movie, movie.

Mr. Twigsnapper. I agree with Trickfox. A most handsome man you are! And since I like to read body language too ..... I note that you were pretty sure of yourself at the time .... and maybe just a little on edge ... but in control of the situation. True? or not? Victoria

spies? In the fifties?

Lets see. In the mid fifties. Help me out here. What was happening? Well ..... not really around then ..... but I do know everyone was worried about the "Cold War". and things I guess were pretty much up in the air ... the Korean "war" was over???? I don't know when they called a halt to that, my knowledge of history is .... spotty to say the least ....

but this story is WONDERFUL ... and what Victoria said is so on the mark .... I think she used the expression "our sweet scientist" right in the middle of things. And that really rang a bell with me. Such a sweet man, from what others have said about him. No one has come up with a better description I think. Dr. Brown was a SWEET individual. And he seemed to generate much loyalty from those around him.

Its just interesting that somehow he seems to have found his way into the fifties. Almost like a kid, looking for his secret decoder ring. I wish that I had been given the chance to meet him. I think I would have liked him.

The picture of him in front of that restaurant is interesting. and I do agree, Mr. Twigsnapper. You are the image of a dapper young man, very aware of who he is and where he is ... not an ounce of fat on you from the looks of it.

My Dad was a boxer and he took one look at that photo and said ... "the mans a martial artist" and I wondered if that was true because he was going just by the photo and did not know what the background was. I was wondering if you could tell us what kind of training you had to go through to be "an armed escort" .... can you tell us in any way .... who you worked for? And if my Dad was right? He always appreciates being right! Madison

A sweet man

Maybe thats what Josephine saw when she went out on that sailboat with the young Townsend Brown. That he was at the very core of it "A sweet man"

And .... with all respect and regard to you Mr. Twigsnapper ..... I get the feeling that .... even without knowing you were armed at the time and there to protect Dr. Brown ...... I get an intirely different "read" from you. And sweetness wouldn't necessarily be on the top of the list.

So ... what in the world was this "sweet scientist" doing needing the protection of this ARMED and I would guess , dangerous to cross, individual? VICTORIA

body guards

I am quite willing to take Mr. Twigsnappers word that he was an "armed escort" for Dr. Brown . and if we are to follow Pauls suggestion and try to discover the nature and the path of the wind by watching the leaves move on bushes and trees, well then, this is a pretty good exercise.

I find it however interesting that when I first heard that I expected to see someone with sort of a more military personna. I don't know ... white helmet with MP emblazoned over the front, something like that. But that is definitely not what Mr. Twigsnapper is. I imagine that he might have worked for a part of the military (whose?) that was much more interested in keeping an exceptionally low (read that nonexistant) profile.

And its pretty obvious that from other information we might not be seeing, Paul has come to the same conclusion.

So, picking up on Pauls lead here, How many of these "individuals" were filling that position? And over what span of years? We have Mr. Twigsnapper in the fifties, nearly ten years later there is this individual named "Charles Miller". And after that? Andrew said that Linda Brown was "used to having people around." Maybe someone should start a list. Or we should just ask Paul ... because I figure ..... he already knows.....

Paul. Twigsnapper has answered the call. What about Charles? Did he fit more of Mr. Twigsnappers description? I know he was not a uniformed individual because you have already written that the kids at Great Valley thought he was a member of the mafia. So .... are there any answers yet? Interesting for sure! Mark

type, type , type

You guys notice how quiet Paul has been! I think that the bunch of us on this particular site are the only ones talking right now .... type type type ... I love it cause I am sitting here wondering what the heck is coming down the pipeline now.

People say that I am pretty perceptive and I guess some of the time I earn that title. And its strange that I would have guessed too that .... besides being armed ... Mr. Twigsnapper would have been good at some sort of martial arts but I agree with Madisons father ... I would guess that he was a boxer..... just something about his stance.

(well I can pick out dancers too,and policement out of uniform, and coaches, generally. We all pick up different ways of gesturing and using our body language. It can turn into quite a science in some circles, but I don't think that Mr. Twigsnapper fits into those stances !.... no ..... boxer .... I will bet with Madisons Dad.

Can you tell us Mr. T? I read that Mr. Stephenson was quite a boxer too. Is there any chance at all Mr. Twigsnapper that you might have known this certain Mr. X. I realize that its been alot of years since Dr. Brown stepped on "The Caroline" and may have met him for the first time, but he is again in Dr. Browns life nearly thirty years later ...... in 1964 or 65 ..... And that picture of you and Dr. Brown fits somehow neatly in between. So, I am thinking MAYBE. Is anyone going to tell me if I am even halfway right?

This is great! Its like one big mystery. But what I have suggested makes alot of sense, I think!

Don't look up Paul, but when you have "posted" and you get a chance to take a deep breath, can you consider answering this? .... or telling us that you flat don't know? Or that you flat can't tell us yet. I'll accept all or those. I just happen to think I am right .... and again I think that Madisons Dad and I have much in common. We like being right. Victoria
