Apologies for keeping the thing going but I just saw a couple of the new commercials.

Here we are with The Gizmo Project, a free download, and it shows the way. But unless we go wifi or something, we will not be capable of recording radio programs due to crappy bandwidth. Gotta think like a network. If we could use CNN's connections, it would solve that problem.

Internet-in-the-sky
Have you ever heard of "Teledesic" Jim?
That was a Craig McCaw/Bill Gates venture with a rich Saudi prince.
It went BUST. They had no cure to resolve Shannon Communication Theory Problems. Other issues about the market was not right. Broadband came around to compete, but it's only temporary. Everything is shifting from NTSC to ATSC -MPEG2.
We allready know the problem, and We are proposing a solution. we are proposing "Land mobile" satellite service using Electrogravitic principles and around 236 Satellites.
This is a hundred times more complex than that simple plan in the TTBrown journals. It does solve the packet delay problem to the point where you can send Real-time HDTV W/dolby5 sound through ten layers of underground parking from a satellite.
Maybe.....Just maybe it's possible right?
I can give you a link for a company working on part of this technology right now. They are stuck with a BIG problem which our group has resolved.
Gimmy a chance to catch up here and I'll help you understand this a bit more but I was wondering if you knew anyone at Apple computers? As you might be aware I'm a Passionate believer in MAC computers.

Teledesic and Mac
Hi Trickfox,
Although I knew of the failure of Iridium I hadn't heard of the teledesic plan.
The UK, Europe, Australia and Asia all operate on the Pal system which has an extra hundred scan lines over ntsc but it's still not HD tv. Your internet in the sky idea sounds terrific and is already partially in place.
Your question, do I know anyone at Mac? 'Fraid not. I pay retail.

Huh?
So, uh, Jim... what exactly is the URL that you've posted in the subject header that begins this thread?
I've tried to load into a browser but nothing's happening. Is that because I'm using a PC instead of a Mac?
I might have gone the Apple route, but back in 1979 when I bought my first computer, the Apple II couldn't even do upper case/lower case characters. I got a Z80-C/PM machine, and went down the Wintel path from there.
So bear with me.

iMovie HD
Paul,
Maybe Trickfox and I should take this outside but iMovie is looking like the next best thing to Avid.
http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/features/iweb.html
I too recall when Apple was just a toy but the advances made in first pro industrial areas and the ease of use, especially after the first pc of my life was stolen, tended to confirm me a mac guy, especially now cuz they lead the way in many areas. My first mac was the second computer of my life and it was so much easier. Remember the big push for Windows95? They touted drag and drop but it was in the Mac since '84.
A 200M US$ campaign to announce an eleven year earlier discovery.

Subject Header
Could you at least change the subject header of the original post to something reflective of the actual subject instead of a URL?
I tried loading that URL in both Firefox and Internet Explorer (v7) and it just crashed my system. So it must be something very Mac-specific.

Ouch!
Paul
What is that all about? So sorry.
I once had Microsoft Word for Mac in my 9600 and it just wonkyed my computer. I hesitate to think someone from mac is making it tuff for a pc. But until I dumped word for mac I was in trouble. Nothing worked, well. Dumped word for mac and everything was ok again.
I hate that stuff and I'm sure Bill Gates and that mac guy feel the same but the programmers sometimes do futz with the program. Once I found a file that said, ms sucks. Well, BS, if there never was a Bill Gates there never would have been a wotsis name. Nevertheless, brand fighting at the highest level by people who like to screw things up at some lower level and think they're helping....
By the way, the big winner here is Intel. They are the pc chips and also now the mac chips.
The thing now is to keep the history talking to the new model, not something mac has done as well as a pc in the past.

Now I See
I finally got that URL to load, and I do like what I see. Anything that speaks of HD video and/or video podcasting sounds good to me. I've also taken the moderator's liberty of editing the original post so that it's more reflective of the actual subject and the URL is in the body of the post.
I was a videotape editor in a previous life -- back in the half-analog/half-digital days of computer controlled tape transports (anybody remember an ABC sitcom called "Barney Miller"?) when most of an editor's day was spent "waiting for the tape to get there." I lament sometimes that I have not maintained those skills, but, you know, a number of other lives have intervened.
I'm glad that we've got people on board who know their way around the current state of those arts. Like Mr. Twigsnappers says, it is often not advisable -- or necessary -- to use one's own knife.
So, Jim, are you editing HD video on a Mac, or creating Podcasts?

today's mac guy
Again, apologies for carrying this on so long.
In a large group of pc guys there's always one mac guy who says, mine's better. The pc guys tend to put up with this upstart but note he may not able to open certain pc docos thereby undermining his superiority. The fact is, if you just want to surf the net and send email, the pc is the machine for you. The mac is an elitist unit that has been used for specific purposes, audio, video, graphics, games. And when you see in an advertising agency that the creative director and his staff have macs for communication, it just works better for them. Meanwhile the business is run on pc's and anyone in admin with a mac is at a disadvantage by not enjoying full communication with the pc crowd.
Macs work better as a specialist's machine. If you don't have a bent for certain specific tasks, I'd say get a pc and be in with your friends. If you get a mac you'll be tolerated but you will find you can't open or receive certain pc documents.
For me, since my first ever pc was stolen, I got a mac and leapfrogged all the msdos I never learned. Though tried. I've been putting up with not being able to fully communicate with pc's since an early time but since my main reason for mac is ease and running my Protools audio program, I too fall into that terrible elitist attitude where I just like macs better. Not that they're better but for me just easier to deal with.
A real mac fan would argue they are infinitely better than pc's and would site Bill Gates saying so, which he did.
