NOTEPAD for RANDOM IDEAS

A place to engage extended discussions of things that come up on the ttbrown.com website. Anything goes here, as long as it's somehow pertinent to the subject(s) at hand.

Now I don't understand any of that but one of my friends (who is pretty aware of all of this stuff) said that there will soon be a " electronic book" which will be shaped like your standard library book and will have a screen which will read just like the page all of us old fuddy duddies are accustomed to.

Its hooked up of course so that you could have your entire library with you .... read your selected book , page by page just the way you would with your favorite book from the shelf of your own library. Old classics, even new books ( like Pauls) available to you with a push of a key.

I WANT ONE.

Martin,

One advantage of caring for an elderly couple is that they watch alot of tv. I am not sure, but I think that I happened to see this "electric book" on Oprah. It is called AmazonKindle.

I already have an e-book available which I wrote, and I think it's a great way to sell your published works. Mine sells for $50.00 US, and can be downloaded immediatly after you use the paypal button to order it.
Perhaps Paul will end up doing the same thing, however I think this story should be printed and distributed the old fashion way as well.

The cover would satisfy your feeling of having something of the past ... the innerds of the thing would bring you the needed technology. It could be a simple " reader" ... All that would be needed to satisfy the library lurker in all of us. And the best part of it is that it would still feel like a "book" , and read like one ... except you would have to touch the page instead of flipping it ... I can live with that.

I want one too. Somebody please develop it. <g>

Linda,

I believe it may already be here. Just put a leather cover on the Kindle:

Yes, nothing can beat a fine book with rich leather binding with gold lettering, tissue thin paper, and gilt edges.

I'll bet Paul is way ahead of us all on the digital publishing options, Martin. However the book comes out, it will be up to us to create the marketing groundswell that assures it will get wide distribution.

Me too, When I read that Obama had brought to the campaign a level of organization and enthusiasm never seen before.... I thought ... if he can do that .... he has a chance to get other things done too. And oh, we have so much to do.

Point?

Post by Mikado14 »

And the point of this political message?

I respect Paul very much for even though his other sites are very political at times he manages to keep it off of the forum.

I have said it before and I say it again, I can't wait until the election is over and we can see the end of ANY political messages.

This forum is not and never was the venue for that, knowledge is not political and when it is, then, you know what that is called.

Although I have posted some myself, I must agree with Mr. Mikado, as politics has no place here in the TTB Forum. There is however a question posed which I would like to take an opportunity to address.

The question was asked, "What is the point?"
The point is simply that we are looking at one of the most important elections possibly in our lifetimes. The point is that all of the rhetoric and rumors aside, we are looking at the possibility of changing the face of the nation and quite possibly the world.

I would also point out that although we (forum members) have read the words and consciously attempt to refrain from the "either/or" condition is how we usually approach our discussions, when it came to the elections, either/or became the only choices seen, not only by a majority of Forum members, but in the nation as a whole.

I have been personally chastised by peers who thought that a vote for a candidate other than McCain or Obama would be taking a vote away from one or the other. That is essentially what choice is about. I do not have to choose between the two, but I can choose from among several candidates that are legally on the ballot. My choices do not have to be limited to Democrat or Republican. The mainstream media would have us believe otherwise.

When I cast my ballot, I discussed the choices for candidates and measures with my wife. I also researched the issues, and what each candidate had opined and actions taken in the past regarding these issues. I feel that regardless of how unpopular my choices were to the majority, it is my right and duty as an American citizen to make choices that I feel serve the highest good for all Americans, and not a special group. I am confident that I have done that, and I am proud to have taken part in this historic election.

Somewhere, Im not sure which side of the rainbow it was, but it was someone here, asked about potential things happening in the lunar environment. Perhaps there is more to the moon than just the cat the fiddle and the cow.

Arc et all,

Uranium on the moon , what possibilities now ?

Curious really how the cyber-wars have now become nuclear issues.
Curious also how the cyber depts were scrapped following the "accidental nuclear flight "

One wonders what such a turnover signifies.
The placing of assets where they are most needed ...for what ?

Cyber Space security is the frontier of national security , and it has disappeared inside a nuclear rabbit hole.

Yeah, the Kindle gizmo is cool, though I've yet to spring for one.

But it's only one outlet re: digital publishing.

Whatever path is taken toward release, it will surely include a digital and hopefully as well as audio component.

But the issues I'm confronting presently have much less to do with the medium of release and much more to do with all the steps that must be taken before a book is ready to be released in ANY medium. That's: design, production, and

...mostly....

editing.

So Paul. Editing then.
To me that simply means ...
Taking out that which is not supposed to be there amd adding to the main body of work that which needs to be there but has not been included yet. Gee ... sounds straightforward. hahahaha

And here is the hard part. Since you are the writer of this ( to use Spaulding Grays title) "Monster in a Box" ... You are the one that has to tell it that it needs to give up parts of itself ... and to take on new sections.

So, is there anyway we can help? Standing by <g>
