Hi again,

Something on data transfer here . Quantum Cryptography in Vienna .

http://tinyurl.com/448kej

Well the original theory seems to work at a practical level , I wonder how the EU initiative will affect US cyberspace capabilities ?

Russia is streamlining it's forces, so current large expenditures will affect the equipment basis and not the personnel ones.

http://tinyurl.com/4n5pok

Still looking for 2012 as being a turning point, that fortuitous and mystic date , perhaps the world economy will be back on track by then as well .

That is if it still has any tangible tracks , certainly it has left a lot of very big footprints behind so far.

Analysts now say that global economic growth rate will slow considerably because of the credit crunch , are we in the hiatus until 2012 and what then , something else , the newer and more integrated world that we have been looking for perhaps .

Peace

Like I said
The whole 2012 "end of the earth" deal is certainly still just a 50% assured thing as far as I'm concerned.

Still I would like to develop the AGI program to set forth a method of extending one's "character traits" beyond this "due date". If we cannot LIVE biologically we can certainly try and extend our "presence" of spirit somehow. There must be some magical way of doing it.

Dear Sister Amalie,
They are both excellent finds. The former can create a more secure internet and hence make identity theft and spoofing much more difficult. The one problem that it does not address is the securing of information that is carried via smart phones, PDAs, and Laptop PCs. But much of that may be addressed when optical chips become ubiquitous peripherals to plethora of smart devices, including bio-authentication, such as fingerprint and retinal scanners.

The reduction and streamlining of the Russian military is not unlike that of the US. As more sophisticated weapons systems have been developed, the use of troops was reduced. But it could mean also that weapons systems that are being developed and manufactured, need more of the military budget and the budget cutting is merely a diversion of funding.

Dear Brother Raymond,
I am open to the possibility that we will soon discover new medical techniques that allow healthy cell reproduction for those of us that require it, without the "barbaric" surgical procedures that current medicine is forced to rely on. Dinner last night was eaten in "waves" as I made a quick sandwich on a "hoagie" roll of Italian salami and provolone cheese with sweet white onion and fresh beefsteak tomato from our garden. After returning from the OSU library to reserve two books by Gabriel Kron, I returned to taste a large helping of sweet "kugel" made with egg noodles, apples, raisins, cottage cheese, and sour cream.

Love and peace abound you all,

Dear trickfox ,

50/50 is a clean division, half of something and half of something else again, and that never ends.

Pleas forgive my total ignorance here but what is AGI, in the sense that you use it .

I know what AI is ...Artificial intelligence ,
Is G for General or does the acronym stand for something else altogether ?

We will surely die, I do understand that now, although when I was young I actually believed I would live eternally (well for a few hundred years)Like the song from the TV serial about a NY drama school " Fame I'm gonna live forever " There a well known method of extending ones character traits, but fame and glory is not what we seek either.

Our spirit does and will live on for ever, we are the generations that saw the planet in transition , and will continue to observe the emergence of our original and future world. We were alive when the ice caps melted, and we heard the discussions of peoples everywhere saying "wake up this world will die if we do not come together and save it" . We all knew a long time ago what was the message that we would bring , and yes we brought it and still much more still needs to be said and to be accomplished .

We will all be eternal, and we will indeed live forever in the mind of mankind, because we realized that the age was passing and we searched for and we located and understood the places where the future world could be found.

The magic is that we are as grains of sand upon a shore and the ocean speaks to us as well , still so infinitely small , we are so great against the sky , yet we recognized each other in passing . Where did we come from and where will we go next, wandering across the living and intelligent universe into our personal eternities ?

You must be gentle and kind to yourself , we are all with you, listening to your dear heart, reading your messages and wondering what you will be having for supper tonight ?

Nothing will happen , nothing ever happens , nothing real ever happens , only illusion .
Don't worry , relax , be happy, it is all happening ...

Hello Amalie

You are correct in your assumption the G is for "general" as in wide-ranging. We already have specialist dedicated AI systems that perform very limited functions. These are usually categorised under the headings of Neural networks or expert systems or fuzzy logic, when you combine them you can get a wider range of functions and things to happen in response to external stimuli. If you own a digital camera it will have some fuzzy-logic rules that drive the autofocus and exposure settings, probably only about 20 interlinked rules are needed to do this.

There are many studies world wide going on in AI, one of them is the long standing work by Douglas Lenat and his CYC machine. I suggest you have a look at the cyc website. He is however also another person who made rapid progress in the beginning and now has "gone quiet" which we assume is another black-ops deal.

Back in the 80's the jet-fighters were already equipped with multiple cpu systems enabling the computer to "detect" and respond to the movements and air pressures, they are all now "fly-by-wire" systems, the pilot is just pushing a game console joystick around and the craft reads his intentions and responds. The future of computer software will be in parallel processing and AI. It will drive the starships that "eventually" emerge into the public arena.

Dear Arc ,

Thank you for the feedback , it is always good to find out something more .

What I want to see is AI capacity focused into the most far reaching problem solving .
Yes these machines will tell us how to steer, but what I want, is for them to tell the international community how to steer the planet out of a dangerous predicament . That means steering us all out of human history as well , because it means working together instead of against each other.

Well who cares what I want anyway !

The machine AI will give the answers if we are willing to feed it with our problems, but it will only give mathematical answers, it cannot give the curious and emotive cultural answers, those have to be sought in other places, within our capacity for dialog, interchange and understanding .

Yet the machine AI will also help for that because it will speed and translate our messages around the world into all places so that all people will be able at long last to reach each other.

Menu

I have cooked some brown rice, and will make a few stir fried vegetables with tofu perhaps . There is still the rest of the nut loaf , but we are a bit sick of it by now .

Last night we didn't eat very much, I had some instant noodles and Alan ate most of a tin of sardines, it was a all bit gross really , but sometimes we get too tired out by life to do much more .

Maths is only part of what is able to be done. Using carefully constructed rules the machine is able to form relationships between sets of data and reach a "conclusion" about the two distinct pieces of data without there being any mention of the actual connection written into the code. The system finds the connection itself. It creates relationships between "things" and then backtracks and forward tracks through data to look for other "links".
If you think of all the knowledge contained in all the encyclopaedias and science papers and journals of the world, then you have the “raw’ data that is to be sorted and cross linked. Then mix in things like ethics and common reasoning like “don’t pick up a red hot pot with your bare hands” and you get an idea of the types of rules that need creating to guide the system. Common sense things we take for granted because we have our 5 physical senses to guide us, these things need expressing as sets of rules then you feed in the raw data and you get a concept output,
Eg list off some known facts;
Tigers are animals
Tigers eat meat
Humans are made of meat

Create a question for the system; Can I pat a wild tiger?.
Machines answer; No -you may be eaten-you will be hurt

But to reach the “answer“ you need many other guiding rules;
Humans like animals
Humans feel pleasure
Humans feel pain
Humans don’t want to be eaten

Or perhaps, The shortest flight path between two planets which are on opposite sides of a star, is directly through the middle of the star between them. Think of the rules needed to ensure the craft avoids this route, eg A humans ability to withstand only limited temperature ranges. The crafts ability to withstand more than humans but eventually itself also melt. The ability of the cooling system to still work within normal ranges, the ability of life support to still function etc.. the list goes on and on.

Eventually machines will surpass the human brains capability for processing and indeed in some aspects they already do for maths processing, but they are still machines and must be recognised as such.

It is not for me to say but I do find that reading such writers as Isaac Asimov always produces interesting technological issues. He investigated the interactions and ethical side of technology.

Yes Yes of course Arc.... You are correct ....BUT!!!!!

What do Australians eat for dinner mate!

I tossed some mushrooms with little green onions in a pan with a bit of butter. I mixed in some home made brown gravy mix and a bit of "Montreal Steak Seasoning" then poured it over left over cold chicken breast. I served it with oven made french fries along with sliced tomatoes and lettuce. a few doughnut holes for desert.

Delicious!!!

According to a movie I once saw, The aboriginals in Australia eat "giant bats" but they taste better with Garlic
Is that true?

Trickfox,

You have taught me a serious and longlasting lesson with your " Whats for dinner?"

Grand champion that I am of living in the present I still slough off some of the most important details. The pleasure of planning and then eating something really good for myself and the people around me. Something to put some thought into, the high light of the day....

Tonight ...was going to be the pedestrian chicken/rice/vegetable dinner. Ho hum. I promise you I will work on making more of it than just that,

Mother used to put flowers on the table, In fact .... the less we might have had to eat, the more beautiful were her arrangements! But she knew the secret to keeping my Dads spirits up. So help me out here Trickfox ... what are you having Tonight? Linda

Trickfox,

You are making me hungry with all this talk of food!
Hold the giant bats please!
I do not eat grubs either.
I am not Bear Grylls!

Glad to see that you're back on the forum and up and at 'em! We will continue to send healing energies and strength your way!

I may be quiet for a few days as I have some business travel.
Take care, folks,

OK well tonight we are having Chicken enchilladas refried beans smothered in salsa and melted shredded cheddar cheese with sour cream on the side, guacamole and tortilla.

Just your typical tex mex supper here.....
Stormy night outside. Wind, Rain, COLD .....

suppose to be sunny tomorrow.

Did some alarm system work today, and tried setting up a new laptop with microsoft vista for Dr. Rivest's 10 year old daughter. Remember him from vegas Linda?( Dr Psy)
His 10 year old keeps dagging in viruses through her MSN chat room pals (10 years old and already chatting on msn) The doctor's five office computers were getting clobbered by all the viruses that his daughter was catching in her internet exploits. He decided to kick her off the office networked computers, went out and bought her own laptop and a wireless router to isolate her from his network.

She's now set up with a better and faster system that all the rest of the office computers. I told the doctor "it's ok, soon she will be teaching YOU how to do things on a computer, so you are not waisting time nor money by giving her the best eduational tools". I just made sure they installed a parental control sofware program to filter out the nasty websites and potential abusers. I just don't know if those programs really work unless there is a company to monitor and upgrade the software peridically to provide better protection.

Now there's a hell of an idea don't you think Mr. Twigsnapper?

I could set up a child computer monitoring service through a VPN and check-up on a dozen or more kids to make sure they are not getting themselves into trouble. The parents would pay a monthly fee to hire me to babysit the kid's usage on line. Prevent them from getting sucked up into pervert websites and such....
A new personnal security industry tailored for parents who are too buy to watch what their kids are doing on the net!!!

Its been my experience Trickfox that one satisfied customer leads to another and you seem to be on a good track. Parents need to protect their children these days and most of them haven't the wildest idea how to safeguard against negative information flowing across from the Internet. You have a good idea I think. And it could build into quite a handy monthly income while still being quite affordable for your clients.

Oh,Prime rib... mashed potatoes .....french cut string beans. Not the best for me I have been told but no one is bold enough to take it away from me!<g>

Those enchiladas sound good though, Maybe later!

It is a good sign that you are hungry, it shows the bodies ability to recover and repair is working well. On this same note but in slightly different track, I do a bit cycling and once a year there is a 160km "round the lake" event which attracts people from far and wide. for some it is a sort of personal race against the clock, anyway to help out with the bodies ability to cope with the load I take various vitamins and minerals but I find magnesium tablets that you buy from any chemist shop is excellent. It's an element that works with the bodies nerve tissue and helps regulate the correct firing action of nerves etc. It's also wonderful for stopping muscle cramps and allows you to push harder for longer. You may or may not be interested in trying it just to see if it helps the heart rhythm,

tea; fresh avocado on mixed salad with lean beef slices and roast kumara.

I find the bats feet tend to scratch and stick in your throat.. <g>

Cyber-sitting Mr. Trickfox? Cool idea, and I agree with Mr. Twigsnapper, it is by recommendation alone that can build into quite a good living.

I am defrosting some homemade pasta sauce, made with fresh Roma tomatoes, garlic, Oregano, Basil and rosemary, all grown in the backyard garden. Rotini pasta cooked al dente, with meatballs. Romaine lettuce salad with sweet white onion (the red ones in the garden aren't quite ripe, and an Italian dressing with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Washing it down with fruit of the vine, a dark grape juice, not a wine. We'll have to cover the orange and red peppers as they aren't ripe yet and it is supposed to drop to frost levels here in the valley.

Bon apetit!

<EDIT> I am making cheese ravioli instead of the rotini pasta. A little bit more pizazz on the plate!
